Smart, the Mercedes-Geely JV, has shown its Smart Concept #2 at the Beijing Auto China 2026 show.
The conncept car design is close to the production model that will be unveiled later this year at the Paris Motor Show.
Designed to be engineered on the brand’s all-new, self-developed proprietary Electric Compact Architecture (ECA), the smart Concept #2 represents the ‘vision of an ultimate all-electric city car’. The new ECA architecture will provide the basis for a next-generation electric drivetrain, advanced safety and an ‘urban driving experience that’s unlike anything, ingeniously maximizing interior space through a signature “wheels-at-the-corners” setup within an ultra-compact 2,792 mm overall length’.
The Smart Concept #2 achieves a tight 6.95-meter turning circle. The brand says the advanced ECA platform empowers the Concept #2 with ‘modern electric performance, envisioning a range of nearly 300 km, alongside rapid DC fast-charging that would charge from 10% to 80% SOC in under 20 minutes.'
The production model Smart #2 is set to make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026.
Wolfgang Ufer, CEO Smart Europe, said: “The strong response from media and industry experts to the debut of smart Concept #2 in the past days confirms that we are moving in the right direction and addressing a real need in the ultra-compact segment. We look forward to carrying this energy forward to the Paris Motor Show in October this year, where we will celebrate the world premiere of the new two-seater Smart #2. Together with Beijing, this underscores key milestones for Smart at two of the most important auto shows in China and Europe.”
Bastian Baudy, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said: “With the Smart Concept #2, we reimagine our iconic two-seater — as a design model of the perfect city car and stylish companion for a stroll through town.”
