SK Signet, the South Korean manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) charging systems, said it had received an order for a minimum of 1,000 ultra-fast chargers from US charging infrastructure developer Francis Energy, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The supplier recently finished building a plant in Plano, Texas, with capacity of 10,000 V2 chargers a year. The company claimed the V2 can recharge an EV from 20% to 80% in 15 minutes.

Francis Energy has 550 chargers along major highways in eight states and plans to expand to 25 in the next few years. It began negotiations last year and finally signed a five year deal to supply at least 1,000 400-kilowatt chargers by 2027.

They are expected to qualify for US government subsidies under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) programme.

SK Signet CEO Shin Jung-ho said in a statement “We plan to complete as soon as possible the development of products applying the North American Charging Standard in response to changes on the US market."
