Renault Korea Company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with local technology firm Kakao Mobility Corporation to jointly develop next-generation connected vehicle technologies, according to local reports.

French automaker Renault Group’s South Korean subsidiary confirmed that it has agreed to collaborate with Kakao Mobility to integrate the company’s high-precision mapping, connected services and in-vehicle software into its locally-produced vehicles. The two companies also plan to jointly develop and test high-precision mapping data and software for use in Renault’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Kakao will help Renault Korea upgrade its in-vehicle infotainment systems by integrating its connected features such as navigation, parking, and EV charging information, and will also help it improve the overall usability of its infotainment systems.

Renault Korea displayed a concept car based on its Grand Koleos SUV, equipped with Kakao Mobility's services and software, at the NextRise 2026 technology exhibition in Seoul last month, to gauge feedback from potential customers.

In the first half of 2026, Renault Korea’s sales, including exports, plunged by 29% to 33,384 units from 47,027 units a year earlier, despite the launch of production of its new Filante flagship SUV in January.

Kakao Mobility’s CEO, Ryu Geung-seon, said in a statement: "Through this collaboration with Renault Korea, we have confirmed that Kakao Mobility's technology and services can help shape the future direction of finished vehicles.”
