Malaysia’s first national car company, Proton Holdings, reported a 45% year-on-year surge in global new vehicle deliveries to 19,465 units in September 2026, reflecting strong demand for both its Proton and Geely-based models. Domestic sales amounted to 18,154 units last month, while overseas sales reached 1,311 vehicles, as the company continued to expand into new markets.
In the first nine months of the year, Proton reported a 41% increase in global sales to 160,886 units, surpassing the 157,976 units the company sold in the whole of 2025, including 7,370 shipments to overseas markets.
The Saga compact sedan remains by far the automaker’s best-selling model, with global sales rising by over 34% to 68,237 units year-to-date, followed by the S70 sedan with 20,709 units and the Geely-based X50 compact SUV with 20,163 units.
In terms of xEVs, Proton sold more than 20,000 e.MAS 5 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) over the nine-month period, while combined sales of the e.MAS 7 BEV and plug-in hybrid models amounted to 6,656 units.
Proton’s deputy CEO, Dato' Abdul Rashid Musa, said in a statement: "We have reached a new milestone in September by not only outperforming total sales for the whole of 2025, but also by achieving it in only nine months. With 60,540 units sold, Proton also had its best Q3 performance since 2009 while setting a new high watermark for the Proton-Geely partnership.
Despite our current success, Proton’s pace of model introductions, infrastructure investments and customer-driven initiatives will not be slowing down. We still have at least two more launches to come before the end of the year, while our export business is targeting further growth in sales of both Proton and Geely badged vehicles originated from Malaysia, in overseas markets."
