Market expected to improve in final two months of the year.

New vehicle sales in the Philippines increased slightly to 40,014 units in October 2025 from 40,003 units a year earlier, according to members’ wholesale data released jointly by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA). The market has begun to slow in recent months, after three years of strong growth from the 2021 pandemic lows.

Economic growth in the country slowed to 4.4% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025, down from 5.5% in the second quarter, the slowest growth since 2021. Household spending growth slowed to 4.1% from 5.3%, despite the central bank having cut its benchmark interest rate by 175 basis points in a little over a year to 4.75%. Spending has been affected by a number of severe typhoons in the last few months, causing widespread flooding and damage in many areas of the country.

In the first ten months of 2025, the vehicle market was slightly lower at 383,424 units, compared with 384,310 units in the same period last year, underpinned by an 8% rise in commercial vehicle sales to 305,963 units, while sales of passenger vehicles fell by 23% to 77,461 units.

Toyota reported a 3.8% sales increase to 185,201 units in the ten-month period, with the company enjoying strong demand for its Hilux and Avanza/Veloz ranges; followed by Mitsubishi Motors with 72,736 units (-1%); Ford 18,634 units (-21%); Suzuki 18,290 units (+9%); and Nissan 18,136 units (-19%).

Sales of electrified vehicles amounted to 24,265 units year-to-date, including 19,379 hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), 3,941 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and 945 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Not all brands are covered, however, including China’s BYD, which is a key player in this segment. Last year, the government expanded its EO12 zero-tariff incentive programme, which runs until 2028, from just zero emission vehicles to also include hybrid vehicles.

Earlier this year, CAMPI said it expects total vehicle sales to reach 500,000 units this year, up from 467,252 units in 2024, with analysts expecting sales to pick up in the final two months, helped by improving weather conditions.
