Nissan’s global sales up slightly in January

Weak sales in Japan offset by higher overseas sales

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company has reported a slight increase in global sales to 272,782 vehicles in January 2026, including models sold under the Nissan and Infiniti brands, with sales in Japan falling by 11% to 35,287 units while overseas sales increased by 2.8% to 217,316 units.

Sales in China rose by over 10% to 50,033 units last month, while sales in North America rose by 7.2% to 102,982 units, including a 5% rise in the US to 71,248 units and a 22% rise in Mexico to 24,804 units, while sales in Canada fell by 10% to 6,798 units. Deliveries in Europe dropped by 13% to 26,185 units and in other markets volumes were down by 4% to 38,116 units.

Global production declined by 7.2% to 222,931 units in January, with output in Japan falling by 9.5% to 47,168 units while overseas volumes declined by 6.6% to 175,763 units. Output in the US rose by over 21% to 43,417 units, while UK output was up by 13% to 25,468 units. This was offset by a 31% drop in Mexico to 42,115 units, as the automaker restructured its regional production following the introduction US import tariffs last year, while output in other countries combined fell by over 8% to 20,322 units.

Exports from Japan rose by 19% to 27,530 units, with shipments to North America rising by 26% to 14,318 units, while there were no shipments to Europe last month. Exports to other markets rose by over 26% to 13,212 units.
