Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company reported a 17.5% plunge in global sales to 207,162 vehicles in August 2026, including models sold under the Nissan and Infiniti brands, with sales in Japan rising by 9.7% to 27,810 units, while overseas sales fell by over 20% to 179,352 units.
In the first eight months of the year, Nissan’s global vehicle sales fell by more than 9% to 1,932,725 units, with sales in Japan rising slightly to 280,917 units, while overseas sales fell by 11% to 1,651,808 units. Sales in China plunged by 27% to 289,410 units year-to-date, while in Europe sales declined by 12% to 199,424 units. North America sales declined by 2% to 881,860 units, with sales in the US down slightly to 640,882 units, while sales in Canada dropped by 15% to 67,220 units, and in Mexico sales fell by 1.5% to 173,758 units.
Nissan’s global vehicle production fell by 11% to 1,700,352 units in the eight-month period, excluding vehicles produced this year by its former joint venture, Renault Nissan Automotive India, with output in Japan rising by 1% to 380,465 units, while overseas volumes declined by 14% to 1,319,887 units. Output in the US surged by 24% to 397,090 units in this period, while production in Mexico plunged by 25% to 340,683 units, as the company continued to shift production to the US in response to the Trump administration’s trade policies. Production in China fell by 32% to 255,601 units in this period, while output in the UK rebounded by 16% to 172,446 units.
Exports from Japan rose by over 5% to 227,220 units year-to-date, with shipments to North America surging by over 22% to 110,462 units, while exports to other markets combined fell by 6% to 115,658 units.
