Nissan’s global sales fall 16% in July

Sharply lower overseas sales more than offset higher domestic sales.

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company reported a 16.5% drop in global sales to 219,495 vehicles in July 2026, including models sold under the Nissan and Infiniti brands, with sales in Japan rising by 3.6% to 35,872 units, reflecting strong demand for mini-vehicles, while overseas sales fell by almost 20% to 183,623 units.

In the first seven months of the year, Nissan’s global vehicle sales fell by 8% to 1,725,547 units, with sales in Japan declining slightly to 253,107 units, while overseas sales fell by 9.2% to 1,621,494 units. Sales in China dropped by over 22% to 261,135 units year-to-date, while sales in North America declined by just 1.3% to 776,390 units, supported by a slight increase in the US to 565,735 units, while sales in Canada dropped by over 16% to 58,662 units, and sales in Mexico fell slightly to 151,294 units. Deliveries in Europe declined by 12% to 185,986 units, while combined volumes in other markets declined by 13.5% to 248,929 units.

Nissan’s global vehicle production fell by 9.5% to 1,508,828 units in the seven-month period, excluding vehicles produced this year by its former joint venture, Renault Nissan Automotive India, with output in Japan unchanged at 343,313 units, while overseas volumes declined by 12% to 1,165,515 units. Output in the US surged by 25% to 342,299 units in this period, while production in Mexico plunged by 25% to 292,068 units, as the company continued to shift production to the US in response to the Trump administration’s trade policies. Production in China fell by 24% to 240,127 units in this period, while output in the UK fell slightly to 155,709 units. Production in other countries combined fell by 28% to 135,312 units.

Exports from Japan rose by almost 7% to 200,610 units year-to-date, with shipments to North America surging by over 22% to 97,726 units, while exports to other markets combined increased by 17% to 101,784 units.
