Japanese automaker to integrate AI autonomous tech into 90% of future models.
Japanese automaker Nissan Motor unveiled its ‘Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life’ vision of future mobility, as it looks to adopt a customer centric strategic direction. The company described the vision as “integrating mobility intelligence into everyday life through Nissan’s focus on AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV), offering a choice of electrification technologies to meet diverse customer and market needs.”
Among the key targets set out by this new strategy under the Ivan Espinosa, the automaker’s CEO since this time last year, is to integrate Nissan AI Drive technologies in 90% of future models in the long term, while also streamlining its product portfolio to 45 models from 56 currently, but with more powertrain options to enhance customer choice. The company said it will also prioritise key global markets such as Japan, the US, and China, to improve economies of scale and competitiveness.
Nissan said artificial intelligence will be central to its approach to technology innovations, including enabling the Nissan AIDV, which will combine Nissan AI Drive Technology and Nissan AI Partner technologies “to enhance mobility and optimize time spent in transit. It will build on real-world deployment of advanced driver assistance (ADAS) technologies, integrating AI with vehicle control and safety systems.
The automaker said it plans to first introduce its next-generation driving technologies by the end of fiscal 2027 (by March 2028), in its new Elgrand large MPV, which is scheduled to be launched later this year.
At the event, the automaker unveiled new models, including X‑Trail and Rogue SUV featuring its latest Hybrid e‑Power system, and an all-new Juke EV, which it said reflect the company’s future direction in terms of design and vehicle performance.
Nissan said its new long‑term direction, guided by its new ‘vision’, is designed to drive sustainable competitive advantage across next‑generation technologies, establish a streamlined product portfolio, redefined its global market approach, and establish an industrial model organized around clearly defined vehicle families.
Speaking at the event, Ivan Espinosa said: “This is the right moment to articulate Nissan’s long‑term vision as we look beyond the Re:Nissan plan and set a clear path for the future. Our vision defines where Nissan is headed, with customer experience as our guiding priority. By advancing mobility intelligence, we will deliver products and technologies that are safer, more intuitive, and more accessible, with outstanding value and a more rewarding overall experience.”
The company confirmed that the Re:Nissan plan remains on track in its final year of execution, delivering “a competitive cost base, improved capacity utilization, and strong new‑product momentum that lays the groundwork for future growth.”
