Nissan Motor has unveiled the all-new Tekton compact SUV in India, as the Japanese automaker stepped up its efforts to strengthen its focus on key markets around the world under its Re:Nissan global recovery strategy.

Nissan confirmed that the new Tekton was developed in India and is produced at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, in partnership with Renault. The model will be sold locally and exported, underscoring India’s growing importance as both a growth market and a strategic manufacturing and export hub for the company. The Japanese automaker said it plans to export the Tekton to more than 50 markets across the Middle East and Africa, “further strengthening India's role within Nissan's global manufacturing and product strategy.”

Nissan said the new C-segment SUV is based on the Alliance’s CMF-B platform and features a “commanding SUV design, advanced technologies, premium comfort, and everyday practicality in a package designed around real customer needs.” It features Google-powered connectivity, advanced driver assistance technologies, and a spacious, premium cabin.

The front-wheel-drive Tekton is available with two turbocharged petrol engine options, a 1.0-litre engine with a maximum power output of 100 PS and a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 1.3-litre engine delivering 163 PS, available alsowith a choice of 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

Nissan’s Chief Performance Officer, Guillaume Cartier, said at the launch event: "We are building a stronger and more competitive Nissan in India. As we continue to strengthen our SUV-led portfolio and sharpen our market focus, the world premiere of the all-new Nissan Tekton reflects our ambition to leverage strategic partnerships to expand our market coverage. Tekton is a clear expression of how Nissan is transforming with purpose towards a more competitive, diverse portfolio."
