Japanese automaker Nissan Motor has launched the all-new Kicks compact crossover vehicle in its home market, designed for both everyday driving and outdoor leisure activities, a full six years after the first generation of the model hit this market in 2020.
Nissan said the new Kicks comes with a more refined, dynamic exterior design, featuring a wide horizontal front grille and bold, full-width taillights. The interior has a modern, open design using soft-touch materials, with a combination of synthetic leather and fabric used for the instrument panel, centre console, and door trims. The vehicle features zero-gravity seats and the NissanConnect infotainment system with built-in Google and a dual 12.3-inch integrated display interface.
Nissan confirmed the new Kicks has a completely updated powertrain, becoming the first model to adopt the company’s newly developed 5-in-1 e‑POWER electric powertrain unit in the Japanese market. The modular system is made up of five core components, including a drive motor, generator, inverter, reducer, and increaser, which the automaker says offers improved compactness, reduced weight, and increased rigidity.
The new Kioks features Nissan’s HR14DDe, fuel-efficient, low-noise 1.4L dedicated power-generation engine and the e‑4ORCE electric-drive all-wheel control technology. “By integrating high-torque motor output with brake control, the system delivers responsive cornering performance and a smooth, comfortable ride,” the company added.
Nissan’s head of Japan Marketing & Sales, Akira Sugimoto, said in a statement: “Kicks is a core model for Nissan, and it plays an important role in delivering the value of electrification technologies to more customers by introducing the third-generation e‑POWER for the first time in the Japanese market. This model reflects Nissan’s distinctive commitment to design, driving performance, and comfort, delivering a model that stimulates a touch of refined playfulness for discerning customers.”
