Mercedes-Benz Thailand announced that it plans to launch the locally-assembled GLC battery-powered mid-size SUV later this year, as the company looks to strengthen its presence in the region’s rapidly expanding battery electric vehicle (BEV) market.
Mercedes-Benz already assembles its EQS range in Thailand, at the Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) in Samut Prakan province, owned by the local Thonburi Group. The facility began production of the first model based on the new Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture (MB.EA), the CLA250, at the beginning of 2026.
The GLC, the second model to be produced in Thailand based on the MB.EA architecture, was unveiled this week. It is based on the MB.EA-M platform and will be powered by a locally assembled 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing a driving range of over 600 km. Mercedes-Benz estimates the GLC’s average energy consumption at 15–16 kWh per 100 km.
With the GLC, Mercedes-Benz introduces its new MB.OS operating system in Thailand, which manages the vehicle’s digital and connected functions. It also features a 39-inch MBUX Hyperscreen stretching across the dashboard.
