India’s passenger vehicle manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has commissioned another assembly line at its Manesar facility in northern India.

According to Maruti, the new line at the firm’s largest plant will aim to produce 100,000 vehicles a year, bringing total manufacturing capability at the plant to 900,000 vehicles per annum.

Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO said: “Maruti Suzuki is deeply committed to Government of India’s vision of `Make in India’. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh (2.35m) units per annum.”

The firm, which is majority-owned by Japan’s Suzuki Motor, says it wants to nearly double its capacity to 4m vehicles per annum by 2031.

The facility was first inaugurated in 2007 and has produced several best-selling vehicles including Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Wagon R, Dzire and S-Presso.
