MCE Holdings Bhd has launched operations at a new MYR 50 million (US$ 12.5 million) manufacturing facility in Serendah, in Malaysia’s Selangor state, as the Malaysian components producer looks to step up production of automotive electronics and next-generation mobility solutions. The new facility is part of a long-term, MYR 200 million (US$ 50 million), expansion plan over the next ten years.

The company expects its new MCE Auto Hub will double its component production capacity, while also advancing its design, engineering, and R&D capabilities. The group currently employs over 680 people across Malaysia in the production of a parking sensors and cameras, electrical switches and connectors, keyless entry systems, EV charging systems, vehicle lighting, and cockpit infotainment systems.

The new plant has tightly controlled manufacturing environments, including clean-room production facilities, to help the company shift its focus to the development and production of automotive electronics systems, including smart cockpit systems, infotainment systems, advanced driver assistance systems, and electronic control units.

MCE’s managing director, Goh Kar Chun, told reporters that the new facility marks a new phase in the company’s development, transforming it from a traditional manufacturer of automotive components into a developer and manufacturer of advanced automotive electronics.

MCE said it aims to help local automakers increase component localization, by establishing new design, engineering, and advanced manufacturing capabilities in the country, while also targeting automakers based overseas. The company is aiming to lift exports from the current 10% of total revenues to 30% over the next few years.
