Lincoln has issued a new recall for 142,734 model year 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC vehicles due to a risk of fire, the US NHTSA said in a statement.
"Owners should park their vehicles outside and away from structures and other vehicles until the recall has been remedied," the safety regulator added.
On these vehicles, the battery monitor sensor may short circuit and overheat, causing a fire in the engine compartment while parked or driving.
As of 15 May, 2023, Ford Motor was aware of 19 potentially related reports of under bonnet fires, including 11 in the US, seven in China, and one in Canada.
"The risk of fire exists even when the vehicle is parked and turned off," NHTSA stressed.
"This month, the company will notify affected owners of the fire risk, advising them to park outside until they can have their vehicles fixed. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Lincoln dealer to have an in line fuse added to the battery monitor sensor power circuit."
Vehicle owners can also visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is under recall.
NHTSA issued a similar warning last year to owners of 2021 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators in the US.
In 2021, General Motors warned owners of its popular Bolt EV to park away from other vehicles and preferably in open areas to reduce potential fire risks.
