Li Auto Inc has signed a deal to assemble its vehicles in Kazakhstan, as the Chinese automaker looks to expand its presence in global markets. The announcement was made as the company celebrated cumulative sales of 300,000 vehicles globally since it launched production in late 2019.
Nasdaq-listed Li Auto, which primarily makes extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), has entered into a strategic partnership with the Allur Group, one of Kazakhstan’s leading automotive groups. Production is scheduled to begin at Allur’s existing assembly plant in the northern city of Kostanay in 2027, making Kazakhstan the first country outside China to mass-produce Li Auto vehicles. The facility is slated to produce models such as the L6, L8, and L9.
Li Auto also officially launched sales of its new L9 flagship SUV in the country, to be sold alongside the L6 and L7 models, which are already available there, with prices ranging from KZT 44 million (US$ 92,00) for the L9 Ultra model to KZT 52 million (USD 109,000) for the L9 Livis model.
Li Auto’s co-founder and president, Ma Donghui, said in a statement: “Central Asia is a crucial starting point for our globalization, and the launch of the L9 flagship model allows us to showcase our most advanced technologies. Through official channels and local partners, we are committed to providing long-term, comprehensive services for families in Kazakhstan. Our strategic partnership with Allur marks a new stage, from export to localised production."
