Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation’s upmarket Lexus brand unveiled the all-new battery-powered TZ three-row SUV, which the company says “introduces exceptional driving performance to the luxury SUV category.”

The new TZ is based on a new platform and is said to offer a “lounge-like” interior featuring the brand’s “signature quietness, ride comfort, and spaciousness qualities.”

The all-wheel drive (AWD) TZ model is powered by front and rear axle motors, each with a power output of up to 227 PS, with a maximum overall system output of 408 PS. Power comes from a 96 kWh battery system which can be charged from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes using a 150 kW DC charging system. It has a driving range of 620 km under Japan’s WLTC system.

Takeshi Miyaura, Chief Engineer at Lexus International, said in a statement: “The TZ was developed with the ‘Driving Lounge’ concept, a refined mobile space that brings smiles to the faces of drivers and families. To get there, the development team continually questioned and refined the vehicle's identity. We envisioned Lexus's target brand value―customers who value time and choose authenticity―and aimed to deliver a new Lexus experience through the TZ. Electrification (BEV) emerged as the method to realize these values because BEV it offers an ideal blend of driving enjoyment and driving evolution. In addition to the Lexus experience of ‘seeing, riding, and driving,’ we now offer the new value of ‘spending time’ inside the vehicle.
