Japanese autonomous driving technology company T2 Inc has announced that it has raised JPY5 billion (US$31 million) in fresh funds after completing a Series-B funding round in which eleven individual investors participated. This brings the total funds raised by the company since it was established in 2020 to over JPY16.5 billion (US$101 million).

T2 employs over 240 people in the development of autonomous driving systems for the long-haul freight transportation sector, and in the provision of transportation- related services for the trucking industry. The company said it ultimately aims to use its autonomous driving technologies to support Japan's logistics sector, as it faces a growing shortage of truck drivers due to changing demographics in the country.

T2 said that more than 50 transportation companies have adopted its in-house Level 2 self-driving technologies, requiring human supervision, in their trucks since 2024. The company is currently developing a Level 4 autonomous driving system, using artificial intelligence (AI) and 360-degree spatial awareness technologies, for trunk-route freight transportation, with plans to introduce the system commercially in 2027.
