Hyundai Motor Group said it would collaborate with Singapore’s Poh Tiong Choon Logistics (PTC) to establish an “ecosystem” for hydrogen powered vehicles in the country.

The automaker said it expected the memorandum of understanding (MOU) it signed this week would help it develop business opportunities in the hydrogen vehicle segment.

Singapore has a national strategy of promoting hydrogen for decarbonisation and aims to generate 50% of its power using hydrogen by 2050.

Hyundai and PTC agreed to combine expertise, experience and resources to develop a mainly hydrogen-based ecosystem for commercial vehicles in Singapore, from production to use.

Earlier, Hyundai said it would work with the UK’s University College London (UCL) to carry out joint research projects involving future carbon neutral technology, including hydrogen production, fuel cells and electrification.

The automaker just opened its new Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) in Singapore, focused on research and development (R&D) of new human centred mobility technology, which includes R&D and a test track.

Last month, HMG signed an MOU with the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (Katech), Air Products Qudra (APQ) and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) to establish a hydrogen based mobility ecosystem in Saudi Arabia.
