Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company reported that its global production increased by 4.3% year-on-year to 283,161 vehicles in December 2025, after plunging by 34% to 218,927 units in November which the company attributed to a shortage of semiconductors, resulting in a sharp drawdown in inventories. Production in Japan rebounded by over 9% to 61,417 units in December, while overseas output increased by over 3% to 221,744 units.
Output in North America rebounded by 29% year-on-year to 117,601 units in December after plunging by 61% to 53,646 units in November, but this was offset by a 16% drop in output in Asia to 97,923 units - including an 11% decline in China to 68,201 units.
In the whole of 2025, the company produced a total of 3,396,057 vehicles globally, down by almost 9% from 3,727,513 units in 2024, with domestic output just 0.5% lower at 689,802 units, while overseas production dropped by almost 11% to 2,706,255 units.
Vehicle production in Asia, excluding Japan, fell by 18% to 1,086,188 units last year, with output in China down by over 16% to 682,289 units. Separate data released by the company shows output in Indonesia fell by 47% to 51,112 units and in Malaysia by 22% to 70,223 units. Production in North America declined by 6% to 1,520,961 units, with output in the US falling by almost 8% to 928,679 units.
Overall exports from Japan increased by almost 20% to 97,019 units in 2025, driven by an almost fourfold increase in exports to the US to 19,633 units, while exports to Europe fell by 11% to 47,023 units.
