Honda’s global vehicle output falls 5% in March

Decline reflects weak overseas output.

Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company reported that its global production fell by 4.8% to 313,259 vehicles in March 2026, from 328,944 units a year earlier. Production in Japan continued to recover from the semiconductor shortages in the fourth quarter of last year, with output rising by over 9% to 66,750 units, while overseas production declined by 8% to 246,509 units.

In the last full fiscal year, from April 2025 to March 2026, the group’s global vehicle output declined by 7.3% to 3,371,664 units, from 3,636,598 in the previous fiscal year, with output in Japan rising by 2.1% to 707,000 units, while overseas output fell by 9.5% to 2,664,664 units.

Vehicle production in North America declined by 3.5% to 1,551,634 units in the twelve-month period, with output in the US falling by 3% to 958,720 units, while production in Asia plunged by almost 19% to 1,005,291 units, including a 16% drop in China to 637,464 units.

Exports from Japan increased by 26% to 108,780 units in the last fiscal year, with shipments to North America more than doubling to 19,153 units, while exports to Europe rose by 7% to 47,707 units. Exports to other markets in Asia rose by 43% to 7,149 units, while to other global markets shipments rose by 28% to 34,771 units.
