A China-based LiDAR sensor manufacturer Hesai Technology has been chosen as the exclusive LiDAR provider for Chery Automobile's new energy brand, iCAR.

The partnership, which focuses on the integration of Hesai's ATX LiDAR into iCAR vehicles, is expected to commence mass production in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Hesai's ATX LiDAR, is a "compact, ultra-high-definition, long-range sensor", that improves the perception capabilities of iCAR vehicles.

It will support advanced functions such as active braking, adaptive cruise control, urban navigation, and smart parking, which are essential for complex driving scenarios.

Hesai's co-founder and CEO Yifan "David" Li said: "We are glad to have been selected as the exclusive LiDAR provider for iCAR's new models. Our partnership with Chery represents a significant milestone in our endeavour to make intelligent driving technology accessible to the mass market."

The company has already secured design wins with 22 automotive OEMs globally, covering over 120 vehicle models.

Earlier this month, Hesai has secured a contract with a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) automaker to supply ATX LiDAR as a standard component for high-end smart EV models.

In December 2024, Hesai signed a deal to provide Changan Automobile with more than 1.5 million LiDAR sensors for its forthcoming smart driving platform.

The contract stipulates the delivery of Hesai's ATX compact LiDAR units, which are slated to be integrated into over ten different vehicle models across the Changan brand portfolio in the coming years.

The inaugural car featuring this technology is expected to commence production in the second half of 2025.
