US-based Geotab and Toyota Connected have entered a global partnership to develop connected mobility and fleet management offerings by combining their technology platforms and data resources.
Under the agreement, Toyota Connected’s vehicle connectivity infrastructure will be linked with Geotab’s telematics technology, artificial intelligence tools and broader data ecosystem.
The rollout will take place in stages, with initial deployment confined to selected regions and particular use cases.
According to the press statement, the partnership is intended to address transport and fleet challenges at both regional and international levels.
Geotab global strategic accounts senior vice president Sherry Calkins said: “This alliance allows Geotab to work closely with Toyota Connected, combining its connectivity technologies and platforms with Geotab’s own technology and partner ecosystem.”
In Japan, pressure on transport and fleet operators is increasing as demographic shifts, including an ageing population and a shortage of drivers, affect the market.
The technical structure will allow vehicle data to move through approved connectivity architectures.
It brings together Toyota Connected’s platforms and Geotab’s software environment to support fleet operations and produce data-led insights.
The scope of the partnership includes telematics hardware, white-label software services, application programming interfaces (APIs) and data ingestion integrations.
The companies also set out plans to expand the relationship over time through more deeply integrated jointly developed products.
As part of the arrangement, Toyota Connected will provide G-Fleet+, a white-label version of Geotab’s platform and GO device.
This will give users access to Geotab’s data ecosystem alongside Toyota Connected’s own connectivity and fleet services.
The partnership also provides for authorised third-party tracking devices to be connected through Geotab’s Data Ingestion Gateway.
Access to vehicle data through API integrations, enabled by Toyota Connected’s connectivity platforms, will be offered depending on regional conditions.
Toyota Connected managing director for connected strategy Makoto Ito said: “By working with Geotab, we can combine our connectivity technologies and platforms with a proven data ecosystem to better serve fleet customers across both Toyota and non-Toyota vehicles.”
