Ford Canada agrees new labour contract

Includes a 15% wage increase

Luke Martin September 26 2023

Canadian union Unifor said members had voted to ratify a new three year, collective agreement with Ford which covers 5,600 workers.

The two sides reached a tentative agreement last week after Unifor members voted 54% in favour.

Ford said the new deal would provide “significant wage increases, bonuses, additional paid time off, retirement enhancements, significant inflation protection provisions as well as an accelerated grow in period for new hires.”

The automaker also said it was “enhancing the income maintenance and eligibility during the Oakville Electric Vehicle Centre (OEVC) retooling period.”

The contract would also green light new investment and added capacity at the Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario.

The deal includes a 15% wage increase over the length of the agreement, 10% for the first year followed by increases of 2% and 3% through the second and third years, a C$10,000 ratification bonus for full time permanent employees and C$4,000 for temporary employees and new hire wage progression period reduced by 50%.

It would also include improvements to retirement programmes including raised pensions and increased company contributions.

The new contract expires on 20 September, 2026.
