EVE Energy has announced that it has completed the second phase of construction of its battery manufacturing plant in Malaysia, according to local reports, as the Chinese manufacturer continues to expand its overseas production capacity to meet growing demand.
At full capacity, the plant is designed to be capable of producing 684 million prismatic and cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells per year across 15 production lines, to supply the automotive and energy storage systems (ESS) markets across Southeast Asia. The first phase of the project was completed in February 2025, with an investment of US 420 million.
EVE Energy confirmed that the additional production capacity resulting from the completion of the second phase of the project gives it more flexibility, improved manufacturing efficiency and faster delivery times to regional clients. It also lays the foundations for future capacity increases, providing further productivity gains and the opportunity to strengthen regional supply chains.
EVE Energy is also investing EUR 1 billion in Hungary, to build a plant with a production capacity of 28 GWh of 46-series batteries, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027 -- targeting growing European demand for battery-powered and hybrid-electric vehicles. The company is also investing in a facility in the US with an annual production capacity of 21 GWh of lithium iron phosphate batteries per year, which is scheduled to become operational in 2027.
