Ecarx Holdings Inc, a global supplier of intelligent automotive computing and software solutions headquartered in the UK, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the entire Flyme software business, including Flyme Auto, an in-vehicle cockpit operating system, and the Flyme cross-device operating system. Flyme is a software business established under Chinese technology firm DreamSmart Group by the local Meizu Technology Company.

US Nasdaq-listed Ecarx said it has already integrated the Flyme Auto OS into more than two million vehicles produced by multiple brands globally, adding that Flyme’s software systems have proven to be commercially scalable, spanning a broad range of end-user segments including passenger vehicles, smartphones, and smart wearables.

The Ecarx and Flyme software platforms provide an end-to-end full-stack software system including multi-screen cabin interaction, seamless mobile-IoT-vehicle connectivity, core middleware, UI/UX frameworks, and comprehensive application development toolkits.

Ecarx confirmed that the definitive agreement signed in June represents a significant expansion of the preliminary agreement signed two months earlier, in April. Ecarx said that after completing its due diligence on the company, it decided that a full acquisition “best serves its long-term product and strategic objectives.”

Ecarx said it agreed to acquire 100% of the Flyme software business portfolio for CNY 1.8 billion (USD 265 million). The company confirmed that the acquisition will be structured “as a clean carve-out from DreamSmart Group, after the acquired entity obtains ownership of the entire Flyme business portfolio.”
