Denza, the automotive brand of BYD Group, is set to introduce its Z9GT flagship electric vehicle in Europe alongside a new high-power charging technology called “FLASH Charging” on 8 April.

The charging system pairs an updated version of BYD’s charging station with the second generation of the company’s Blade Battery.

The charging station can deliver up to 1,500kW through a single cable using the Chinese-market connector.

According to the company, the revised lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery has been developed to improve ion transport.

It supports higher energy density, enables faster charging across a wider temperature range, and helps reduce battery degradation, the press statement added.

The company said the FLASH Charging system can increase the battery level from 10% to 70% in five minutes and added that the charge can reach 97% from 10% in around nine minutes.

In colder environments, the system can charge the battery from 20% to 97% in around 12 minutes at temperatures as low as -30°C.

BYD executive vice president Stella Li said: “The introduction of the DENZA Z9GT in Europe marks a very important milestone for our brand. The Z9GT represents the true spirit of DENZA - where advanced technology, beautiful design and emotional driving come together.”

The Z9GT is based on Denza’s e3 Platform and is equipped with a 122kWh Blade Battery.

The rear-wheel-drive version is claimed to deliver a driving range of up to 800km.

A triple-motor variant of the electric vehicle is also planned, producing more than 960PS and capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in under three seconds.

The vehicle will also include an in-car sound system developed in partnership with French audio company Devialet.

The system features a customised speaker configuration and supports Dolby Atmos immersive audio technology.

The company stated that thousands of FLASH Charging stations have already been installed in China and said the technology will be deployed globally, including an initial rollout of FLASH chargers in Europe.
