Cybertruck to tour China

"Getting Cybertruck road legal in China would be very difficult”

Dani Cole January 19 2024

Tesla China said the Cybertruck would embark on a nationwide tour.

The announcement was made on Chinese social media site Wechat, Reuters reported.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on X: "Getting Cybertruck road legal in China would be very difficult”, but the firm could ship over some prototypes for display.

City governments in China do not allow pickups to enter downtown areas, though recently under central government guidance, some cities including Shanghai have eased pickup truck restrictions, according to the International Trade Administration.

In 2022, Chongqing became the first Chinese city to lift a ban on pickups.

On Tesla's Chinese website, the Cybertruck is not open for orders.

No details were given as to when the tour would take place.

However, media outlet the Paper subsequently said on Tuesday (23 January) a China-wide tour would kick off in late January, with eight trucks simultaneously on display in eight cities including Shanghai and Beijing.
