Coke bottler buys Freightliner EV tractors

Fleet helps reduce RCCB's diesel fuel consumption by 40,000 US gallons (150,000 litres) per year

Graeme Roberts November 29 2023

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) said it had delivered 20 Class 8 battery electric Freightliner eCascadia tractor units to Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling (RCCB) in California.

DTNA claimed the EV fleet helps "reduce [RCCB's] diesel fuel consumption by an impressive 150,000 litres (40,000 US gallons) per year. The electric fleet purchase was part of a broader initiative by RCCB to reduce its carbon emissions 30% by 2030.

RCCB relies exclusively on 20 Detroit eFill charging stations at its Downey, California facility, complemented by Detroit's charger management system. It integrated the eCascadias into its existing fleet under the management of Detroit eConsulting.

The Freightliners are designed for use as zero emission tractors and offer a fast charging time of 2.5-three hours at 80% capacity. Depending on configuration, the tractor offers a range of 155, 220 or 230 miles (249, 354 or 370km) which DTNA said was "ideal for short and regional routes with charging at the depot".

The "eCascadia is ideal for last mile logistics, regional distribution, freight transportation and warehouse operations", it added.
