BYD launches Denza premium EV brand in Indonesia

Automaker strengthens lead in BEV segment.

China's leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD Auto launched its Denza premium brand in Indonesia this week, consolidating its already dominant position in the country’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) market.

BYD began deliveries of BEVs in Indonesia last June, with sales having exceeded 15,400 units by the end of 2024 – far outselling any other BEV brand in the country on a monthly basis.

Speaking at the Denza brand launch event in Jakarta Liu Xueliang, the head of sales at BYD Asia-Pacific, confirmed that “BYD will bring more new models to Indonesia this year.” The Denza D9 battery-powered MPV was launched at the event, priced at IDR950m (US$58,500).

All BYD models sold in Indonesia so far have been imported from China. Earlier this month the company confirmed it aims to complete construction of a new vehicle assembly plant in Subang, in Indonesia’s West Java province, by the end of the year. The facility will have a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year and is scheduled to begin operations in early 2026.

BYD opened a new vehicle assembly plant in Thailand last July, also with a production capacity of 150,000 units per year.
