Building upon the success of its passenger vehicles – in Q1 2026, BYD recorded 21,337 registrations, earning a UK new car market share of 3.98% – BYD is now entering the UK light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment.
BYD will display its new LCV offering, the Dolphin Cargo e-Van, at the Birmingham NEC from 21st to 23rd April 2026.
The first model to commence BYD commercial sales in the UK will be the Dolphin Cargo e-Van, a van conversion of the popular Dolphin electric hatchback. Alongside its combined WLTP range of 265 miles, it also provides over 1,000 litres of loadspace, which has been created by removing the Dolphin’s rear seats; these have been replaced by a solid bulkhead and a re-engineered rear floor.
The engineering approach from BYD harks back to the days when car-derived vans (CDVs) developed on car platforms (such as the Ford Escort back in the 1980s) at low cost took a significant share of the UK's light van market.
The Dolphin cargo e-Van on display will feature a lightweight racking solution by Modul-System.
The Commercial Vehicle Show is described as the UK’s premier event for road freight, transport, distribution and logistics. In 2026, the show has shifted its focus towards establishing itself as the definitive platform for driving decarbonisation, embracing digital transformation, and powering the shift to net zero.
