BMW chooses AWS for automated driving platform

Will offer enhanced driver alerts, automated braking, and steering functions

Luke Martin September 06 2023

BMW has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its cloud provider for its new automated driving platform.

It is set to be used for the forthcoming Neue Klasse models for launch in 2025.

The platform will tap into BMW’s cloud data hub on AWS, using its computing power, generative AI, IoT capabilities, machine learning and storage solutions.

These systems, integrating software and onboard sensors, will offer enhanced driver alerts, automated braking, and steering functions.

Leveraging AWS for the platform would enable engineers to “respond more quickly to customer demands and deliver new features to help improve the driving experience”.

The German automaker has also joined Qualcomm Technologies to jointly develop automated driving systems based on the Snapdragon Ride Platform.
