Automakers launch supplier CO2 monitoring

Blockchain enables automakers to collect emissions data

Luke Martin July 31 2023

Hyundai and Kia have launched a Supplier CO2 Emission Monitoring System (SCEMS) which uses artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology to calculate carbon emissions at every stage of supplier's supply chain, "ensuring data transparency and integrity".

Blockchain enables the automakers to collect carbon emissions data, meeting environment regulations.

This speeds data collection and relieves suppliers from time consuming and costly carbon emissions tracking.

Suppliers can manage carbon emissions accurately.

Reliable carbon emission data can now be obtained from all suppliers' operations.

This, the companies said, ensures regulators, stakeholders, and investors "can trust the accuracy of the data".
