Arkema and China-based separator film supplier Senior have signed a memorandum to deepen cooperation on advanced lithium-ion battery technologies.

The partnership is aimed at speeding up the development, testing and industrial rollout of new materials for batteries used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics and renewable energy systems.

The agreement sets out plans for broader technical, commercial and application-led collaboration.

It combines French specialty material company’s current and future battery materials with Senior’s separator products and manufacturing capabilities.

Arkema CTO Armand Ajdari said: “This cooperation with Senior reflects our shared ambition to push the boundaries of battery materials innovation. By combining Arkema’s materials science expertise with Senior’s strong industrial and application capabilities, we aim to accelerate the development of advanced solutions that address the evolving needs of the global battery market.”

Work under the memorandum will focus on areas such as adhesion solutions, controlled coating and deposition on electrodes, low-temperature cell assembly and semi-solid battery manufacturing.

According to the companies, the initiative will link Arkema’s specialty materials expertise with Senior’s experience in separator design, production processes and large-scale manufacturing.

Arkema said its battery materials portfolio includes Kynar PVDF and Incellion acrylic-based solutions, which it says are designed to enhance safety, durability and efficiency in applications such as electric mobility and energy storage.

Senior said it supplies separator films for lithium-ion batteries and operates research, development and manufacturing platforms across China, Southeast Asia, Europe and the US.

Senior CTO Steven Zhang added: “By working closely with Arkema, we strengthen our ability to industrialize innovative material solutions and support our customers with reliable, high-performance technologies across the global battery value chain.”
