Xiaomi has introduced a luxury version of its SU7 electric sports car, positioning this model in direct competition with brands such as Tesla and Porsche, reported Reuters.

Priced at $114,000, SU7 Ultra will feature high-end components such as a carbon-fiber roof, performance ceramic brakes, and aerodynamic styling.

This vehicle’s prototype was unveiled in July this year.

The pricing of the new luxury model from Xiaomi positions it alongside premium offerings such as the Tesla Model S Plaid, indicating the company’s plan to compete on performance instead of cost.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun stated: “This is the world’s fastest four-door mass-produced car currently available.

“When people ask why we created such a powerful machine, my answer is simple, we’re building a dream car.”

During the announcement, Lei Jun showcased a comparison chart that highlighted the SU7 Ultra’s superior acceleration and top speed over the Porsche Taycan Turbo, reported the media outlet.

Despite the Tesla Model S Plaid’s longer driving range, the SU7 Ultra is touted to outpace it.

Xiaomi’s foray into the EV market began in March with the successful launch of the original SU7, a lookalike of Porsche and priced under $30,000.

The move to introduce the SU7 Ultra reflects a broader trend among Chinese EV manufacturers to emulate Tesla’s strategy of launching fast, technologically advanced vehicles in the market segment that is less sensitive to price competition.

Xiaomi aims to deliver 120,000 SU7 vehicles by the end of the year and has also reported strong demand, with over 3,600 orders received within ten minutes of the SU7 Ultra’s debut.

The first SU7 Ultras would be delivered in March next year, stated the company.

The company’s EV deliveries in China have been robust, surpassing 10,000 vehicles per month since June and reaching over 20,000 in October.

In April, Xiaomi stated that it received over 70,000 orders for the SU7, reflecting the brand’s growing presence in the EV market.
