Lamborghini first half sales rose a staggering 96% year on year to a record 4,553 cars worldwide.

This latest half year result was better than the full year 2017 tally.

As planned, the automaker noted, a "substantial contribution" of the H1 2019 sales increase was due to the Urus SUV of which 2,693 units were sold.

The Huracan accounted for 1,211 units, including a model changeover while 649 Aventadors were sold.

The largest single market was again the US, followed by China, the UK, Japan and Germany.

The American region grew fastest with an increase of 128% to 1,543 units, followed by Asia Pacific where sales doubled to 1,184 and EMEA which saw an increase of 67% to 1,826.
