Webasto, which specialises in sunroofs, panoramic or convertible roofs and parking heaters, is spending EUR10m (US$11.8m) at its factory in Utting, Bavaria.

Within two years, it will build a new assembly line for roof production supplied by Kuka Industries.

Utting is a 'mother plant' for sunroof production. It is also close to the roof systems development centre in Stockdorf.

"We have been manufacturing in Utting for almost 40 years and we want to continue producing quality products for premium vehicles here in future", said Webasto SE chairman Holger Engelmann.

"In order to secure the site over the long term we are making the plant fit for Industry 4.0 with a high degree of automation.

"The close exchange between development and production is important in order to ensure that high quality products are created from innovative ideas. We can then reliably manufacture these products anywhere in the world."
