Wayve, a UK-based startup focused on self-driving technology, has established an on-road testing and development hub in Germany to advance its automated driving technology.

This move strengthens company’s global expansion strategy, following a successful $1.05bn series C funding round and on-road trials in the UK and the US.

The German hub will focus on refining Wayve’s AI-driven technology, particularly in the realm of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features.

The testing centre located in Baden-Württemberg in the Stuttgart region will be instrumental in advancing Wayve’s automated driving capabilities.

With Germany’s “diverse and demanding” driving conditions, from high-speed Autobahns to complex urban environments and winter roads, the location offers an ideal backdrop for Wayve to test and perfect its AI-powered driving technology.

Wayve co-founder and CEO Alex Kendall said: “2025 is a year of global expansion for Wayve, and we are incredibly excited to establish operations in Germany. With its rich automotive heritage and deep engineering expertise, Germany is a perfect place to accelerate the development and deployment of AI-powered driving technology. I look forward to partnering with Germany’s world-leading manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to bring safe, scalable, and production-ready AI software to vehicles worldwide.”

Wayve’s autonomous driving technology leverages AV2.0 AI models that learn from real-world data, allowing them to adapt to new driving conditions without the need for high-definition maps or sensors.

The company trains its AI using a broad range of driving data to enhance the overall safety, efficiency, and scalability of autonomous driving.

In October 2024, Wayve commenced its first on-road self-driving technology trials outside the UK in San Francisco, US.
