Waymo autonomous driving technology will be integrated into the Uber platform in a US trial.

The agreement will merge Waymo technology with Uber ridesharing and delivery services and will launch late in 2023.

Some vehicles will be used in Waymo’s recently expanded operating area in Phoenix, Arizona.

At 180 square miles, the area is claimed to be the “largest fully autonomous service area in the world”.

Customers will retain the option to request a Waymo vehicle directly with an app.

The deal sees Uber return to the autonomous vehicle market since selling its driverless car subsidiary to Aurora Technologies in 2020 for a reported $4bn.
