Wabco says it has acquired the business of Trans-Safety Locks, a security solutions provider for the transportation industry in Europe.

The purchase enables Wabco to expand its product portfolio associated with its global Fleet Management Solutions (FMS) business and the company’s Intelligent Trailer Programme.

Trans-Safety Locks offers around 20 different mechanical and electronic locking systems for a range of transport vehicles, including trucks, trailers, semi-trailers, armoured and construction vehicles, vans, swap bodies, and containers.

Wabco maintains Trans-Safety Locks products help prevent cargo theft, which according to a European Union Parliament report citing the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), leads to an estimated annual  loss of EUR8.2bn (US$9.2bn) in Europe.

With the acquisition, Wabco will link security solutions devices to its own fleet management solutions provider, Transics International.

Wabco’s FMS business monitors trucks, trailers, drivers and cargo in real time. Wabco can evaluate whether doors on transport vehicles are safely locked.

Wabco’s Intelligent Trailer Programme encompasses more than 40 safety functionalities for trailers to-date, including blind spot detection, tyre pressure monitoring and electronic braking.

“We are excited to welcome our new employees, formerly associated with Trans-Safety Locks, to the Wabco family,” said Wabco president, Trailer Systems, Aftermarket and Off-Highway Division, Nick Rens.

“We are well-positioned to add differentiating functionalities to our product portfolio that help prevent the financial and human cost of cargo theft.

“These solutions are attractive to commercial vehicle fleet operators, aftermarket customers, and trailer manufacturers alike.”
