The Volkswagen Group grew deliveries in the first seven months of 2016 by 1.3% year on year to 5.9m units while 787,300 were delivered in July.
“Deliveries by the Volkswagen Group in July almost matched the prior-year level and continued the positive trend for the first six months. The group’s broad brand portfolio is proving to be a great strength,” said group sales chief Fred Kappler.
European year to date (YTD) sales rose 2.6% to 2.52m but July sales slipped 4.7% to 323,800. Western Europe sales rose 2% to 2.14m while 377,900 (+6.6%) were delivered in central and eastern Europe, with Poland and the Czech Republic reporting “significant growth”.
North American sales were off 0.3% to 81,500 as the downturn in the US continued in July (-5.1%). “The macroeconomic situation in the South America region, particularly in Brazil, remained tense”, VW noted saying sales fell 23.5% to 37,400.
Asia-Pacific sales last month increased 11.6% to 311,400 units with 285,900 (+16%) delivered in China. YTD volume rose 5.9% to 2.35m.
