Volkswagen brand deliveries last year rose 6.7% year on year to 4.87m vehicles worldwide.

Sales of BEVs rose 21.1% to 394,000 units.

Sales and marketing chief Imelda Labb said: “We expect the market environment to remain challenging in 2024 but, with our revised and attractive product portfolio, we are in the right position.”

The largest BEV markets were China, Germany, the US, the UK, Sweden, France, Norway and Belgium.

SUVs took a 54.2% share of European deliveries (up 14.9% on 2022) while 81% of US sales were SUVs.

In Europe, the T-Roc remained the brand’s best selling SUV: the model set a new delivery record in Germany, UK, Spain and Turkey.
