A few days after saying “robust” customer feedback and demand for European in-car package delivery and US mobile fuel and wash services was encouraging further development of its connected car platform, Geely’s Volvo Cars announced it had added Amazon package delivery for some US customers.

The service is available in 37 cities and surrounding areas with more locations to come. It is offered to Volvo driving Amazon Prime members.

“Simplifying the customer experience is central to Volvo’s digital vision. Receiving a package securely and reliably in your car, without you having to be there, is something we think many people will appreciate. This mix of car and commerce is starting the next wave of innovation, and we intend to be at the forefront,” said the automaker’s chief digital officer Atif Rafiq.

Customers download the Amazon Key App and link their Amazon accounts with their Volvo On Call accounts. Once setup is complete and a delivery location is registered, customers can shop and select the in-car delivery option at checkout.

The apps notify customers when the delivery is about to happen. On the day, customers should park within range of their delivery address and a driver will deliver the package during the scheduled time window. Customers will be notified when the delivery is completed and the car is safely locked.

“We have offered in-car delivery in Europe since 2015 through programmes in the Nordics and Switzerland and we believe that receiving packages should be as easy and convenient as ordering them online,” said Anders Tylman-Mikiewicz, Volvo’s head of consumer connectivity services.

Other On Call platform services allow calendar-based navigation destinations to be sent directly to the car, fuel station search and vehicle locator.

Volvo also offers car sharing via digital key in some markets, also enabled via On Call. The platform allows XC40 owners to share cars without having to hand over a physical key.

Volvo claims On Call was the first mobile connected car platform at launch. It is now available in 50 countries, covering over 90% of global sales.
