Sales of imported cars in South Korea rose by close to 35% to 22,991 units in November, from 16,959 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association.

Registrations of German cars rebounded sharply last month, as Volkswagen moved to reverse its recent slide with aggressive market and promotion activities. The brand’s sales hit a monthly record of 4,517 units.

Last month, Volkswagen group was ordered to recall over 125,000 cars sold in South Korea and fined US$12m for faking emissions tests.

BMW sold a total of 4,217 cars last month, while Audi sold 3,796 units and Mercedes-Benz 3,441 units.

In the first 11 months of the year import sales rose by over 22% to 219,534 units, from 179,239 units in the same period of last year.
