Volkswagen has named a new chief compliance officer. This is a brand appointment, not the group role which changed hands last January.
Kurt Michels (46), previously Daimler's chief compliance officer trucks and vans and buses, takes on the role on 1 April 2017, replacing Frank Fabian (50), who becomes spokesman for the management board.
Last Januaary, group head of compliance, Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt, also a former Daimler employee, left her post after disagreements with senior managers at the crisis-hit company.
VW also she was leaving due to 'differences in their understanding of responsibilities and future operating structures within the function she leads'.
Michels started his career with Daimler-Benz as an in-house attorney for purchasing and sales law in 1998. From 2006, he headed the product safety and regulatory department as associate general counsel.
In 2011, he was appointed chief compliance officer for trucks and vans and, in 2013 also for buses.
