The Volkswagen Group delivered over 1m vehicles for the first time in September, the highest level ever for a single month, the 1.01m tally was 6.6% up year on year.
The group also reported a "significant" rise in deliveries in South and North America as well as Central and Eastern Europe in September. At 7,806,600 vehicles, year to date sales were up 2.6%.
Europe sales rose 1.5% to 404,500 vehicles while central and eastern Europe volume was up 13.8% to 63,400. But sales in Germany fell 3.3% and western Europe was off 0.5% despite increases in Spain and Italy.
North America sales 13.5% to 85,900 vehicles helped by the launch of the Atlas SUV and new Tiguan in the US (+21.8%). South America sales toser 68.4% to 47,800 after sizeable increases in Brazil (110.5%) and Argentina.
Asia-Pacific sales rose 6.1% to 436,700 with China volume up 6.3% to 406,500.
Sales chief Fred Kappler said: "This record result demonstrates the strength of the Volkswagen Group. Vehicles from our brands are thrilling more and more customers worldwide – our new SUVs in particular are very popular. China continues to play an important role in this respect."
