Valeo and Wabco have signed an MoU to bring active safety technology to the commercial vehicle market to protect pedestrians and cyclists in city traffic as well as enable autonomous driving features.

Valeo will contribute in perception systems, especially its radars and Lidar. Valeo is already engaged in mass production for passenger cars with radars, front cameras and Lidar.

The French supplier has brought to market, 360 degree AEB Nearshield, a technology which protects nearby pedestrians when vehicles perform low-speed manoeuvrers.

Radar and Lidar technologies developed within the partnership will comply with upcoming commercial vehicle legislation and deliver warning and braking systems which protect vulnerable road users in urban environments.

Through the MoU, Valeo and Wabco will first work on a radar solution to be available as soon as 2020, delivering blind spot warning assistance to drivers to comply with German regulations (ahead of European Union 2020 rules).

Valeo and Wabco will, at the same time, work on various Lidar solutions covering an extended range of situations which go beyond 2020 regulatory requirements and facilitate driving.
