Car production at GM Uzbekistan, a joint venture between GM and Uzbek carmaker Uzavtoprom, was nearly flat on the year in January-May, increasing 0.1% to 78,067 units in the period, the state statistics committee has reported.

Of the total, GM Uzbekistan produced 34,773 Nexia cars, down 8.4% on the year; 25,560 Matiz compact cars, down 11.3% on the year; 9,205 Damas minivans, down 9.5% on the year; 661 Captiva SUVs, up 1.3% on the year, and 586 Epica cars, up 1.7% on the year. The company also produced 7,282 Lacetti cars in the period.
In 2008, GM Uzbekistan’s car output increased 13.5% on the year to 195,038 units, Prime-Tass said.
GM holds a 25% stake in the joint venture, while Uzavtoprom holds the remaining 75%.
