The Uzbeki government and Daewoo Motor’s joint venture making cars in Uzbekistan is planning a large increase in output this year, according to a Reuters report.
The report, citing an Uzbeki government official, says that output this year is planned to reach 50,000 units, which compares with 41,000 units last year. The report adds that exports are planned to rise to 15,000 units this year, against 10,000 last year.
Daewoo Motor’s bankruptcy and higher import tariffs to Russia have depressed exports over the past eighteen months.
The plant near Tashkent makes Matiz city cars and Nexia saloons. A small number are exported top other central Asian states, but Russia is the main destination for exports.
