• Last week’s car and truck production estimate for North America was 400,853 — the highest in history. The previous record of 397,221 cars and light trucks was set the week ended Dec. 11, 1999.
  • For the third time in nine weeks, Ford Motor Co. set a record for production of trucks in the United States. During the week ended June 17, Ford built 58,963 trucks, breaking the record of 57,659 set the week ended May 20.
  • Production of the Ford Escape began Monday, June 12, in Kansas City, Mo. The truck had been in pre-production since January.
  • DaimlerChrysler reported production for the Sebring convertible for the first time last week. It now is produced at DaimlerChry-sler’s Sterling Heights, Mich., plant. Previously, the Sebring convertible was built by Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America Inc. in Normal, Ill.
